This week
This week, I started a new job. Having spent the last few months job searching, I’ve been reflecting a lot on my own process. Inspired by a friend, I’ve decided to give week-notes a try. Once a week, document what’s been going on, learnings etc. Something I’ve been thinking about, and what’s coming up next. Short and simple but a chance to reflect. Part of me is worried that this is just a ‘new year, new me’ type thing lining up with the start of a new job, but it’s an experiment I want to try and who knows, maybe it’ll work?
To facilitate my week-notes, I’ve been spending some evenings relaunching jowill.co.uk. Previously this was a private site with my folio on it for job searching purposes. It feels like a good opportunity to play around with Claude Code beyond the locally hosted sites I’ve been building.

In relaunching jowill.co.uk, I’ve been thinking a lot about AI transparency. The guys over at LevelFive have shared some really good food for thought on the topic. The upshot of that is, if this site is for sharing my thoughts, you should know what comes from me and what comes from AI. How can I honestly expect someone to read the content here and find any value without knowing where it’s come from? In a world where AI slop is on every lamppost, and every other social media post, why is my writing different?
To answer that, I’ve set some rules for my site. Every page has an AI transparency badge on it. There are some pages that are entirely AI-generated content (the change log and llms.txt). These are functional pages that don’t share any thoughts or feelings. They do list useful info to help with SEO and web-build transparency as I learn more about deploying websites with the help of Claude Code et al. But will always have the label ‘AI Generated’ so you know where you stand.
Posts like this one will never be AI generated, but will be AI assisted. The main reason is I have dyslexia and dyscalculia. I want to write and share my thoughts, but I will always run my posts through Claude to reduce the ramble, improve flow and grammar and spot any spelling mistakes that slipped through the net. But I’ll occasionally ask Claude to ask me a few questions based on my draft to help me hone my ability and expand on points.
I’m trying hard to find the fine line between being myself and making sure the writing coming through this site is very Jo, but with the gentle look over the shoulder an English teacher would take. I think there will be more thoughts on this as my week-notes develop.

As with any new job, it’s onboarding central at the moment. It’s good meeting new people, getting to grips with a new company, but I am looking forward to getting stuck into some work. Outside of work, my wife and I are going to a salsa class next week which will be… interesting 💃💃
